This sunday,i had a session on MYSQL at GLOSS in TIFAC-CORE AUDITORIUM, it was really impressive, i came to know a lot about its uses and importance in this modern era..
The GLOSS community, which is sponsored by SUN MICROSYSTEM, is really successful in getting attention of technically motivated geeks @sastra, and day by day new technical aspects of various open source products is being described which is very knowlegeous... which is really appreciatable..
Mysql, as, i came to know in GLOSS, is a relational database management system(RDBMS), and it is open source product.. at first, Ramprakash told a very interesting story about Dragon and the students and their planning to get rid of the dragon, he then interrelated the story in deployment of Mysql was really admirable, as it caught the whole attention of students attending the session, Mysql works on different system platforms, and all programming languages include libraries for accessing Mysql databases, as it was shown by Sanjeev sir using java.Though MySQL began as a low-end alternative to more powerful proprietary databases, it has gradually evolved to support higher-scale needs as well.It is still most commonly used in small to medium scale single-server deployments, either as a component in a LAMP/WAMP/XAMP based web application or as a standalone database server.
Then it was discussed about, various basic sql commands like-insert, delete, update, select...etc... which was presented by powerpoint presentation, and was explained in an interactive way, everybody were encouraged to learn all the basics of Mysql, i.e., what it is? how it works? how to use?
About MySQL Workbench, it was discussed as it provides DBAs and developers an integrated tools environment for:
- Database Design & Modeling
- SQL Development (replacing MySQL Query Browser)
- Database Administration (replacing MySQL Administrator)

Mysql administrator, Mysql query browser, and Mysql migration toolkit, i became familiar with.. using gift items the students were made to participate in the whole session, the above photo shows how much attentionful the session was.
A a lot of advantages of using Mysql was discussed, as it is the best and the most-used database in the world for online applications, available and affordable for all, easy to use, continuously improved while remaining fast, secure and reliable, free from bugs....
Many of the world's largest and fastest-growing organizations use MySQL to save time and money powering their high-volume Web sites, critical business systems, and packaged software — including industry leaders such as Yahoo!, Alcatel-Lucent, Google, Nokia, YouTube, Wikipedia, and Booking.com.
and at last i would state that it was awesome and i got a lot of ideas about Mysql and its uses with other languages, gloss is successful in its goal, i hope that in future also it will conduct such nice and intellect sessions.
open source rocks!!!!
